Occupation of Somaliaand human rights
abuses
This House notes the publication by Amnesty
International of damningevidence of
human rights abuses carried out by Ethiopian forces and
theirallies in Somalia;
further notes that nearly half, 700,000 people,of
thepopulation of Mogadishu have
been forced to flee following the Ethiopian invasion;
recalls that
the US government has trained and supplied
Ethiopiantroops involved in the occupation of Somalia
and that the European Union isalso a funder of the
regimes in Ethiopia and occupied Somalia;
this
Housetherefore supports the call by Amnesty
International for an
internationalcommission of inquiry into allegations of
war crimes in Somalia and
into therole of other countries that have given military
or financial support to
thosewho might have committed them.
